Responsible Stewards of the Environment

Boxley’s environmental sustainability program is another Team 360 employee-led initiative to improve and be responsible stewards of the environment continuously. Our main initiatives revolve around recycling materials, reusing waste materials, water conservation, environmental volunteerism, wildlife habitat conservation, reforestation, and more.

Outstanding Environmental Operations

Boxley has prioritized pursuing environmental certification programs that demonstrate high standards of operational excellence through recycling, reusing, and conservation. Some of our notable achievements are listed below:

Wildlife Habitat Council Partnership

The Big Branch Channel Restoration Program at Lawyers Road Aggregate is a nationally certified wildlife habitat site. Conservation Certification® by the Wildlife Habitat Council is the only voluntary sustainability standard designed for broad-based biodiversity enhancement and conservation education activities on corporate landholdings. The Lawyers Road project includes trails, a bridge, interpretive signage and view waypoints.

Boxley aggregates typically uses less than 50% of the acreage permitted for our operations to create a significant buffer between our operations and our neighbors. This buffer is usually used for wildlife habitat. We conduct baseline habitat inventories which are used for habitat enhancement activities and environmental education.

Reforestation and Timber Management

Since 2006, Boxley has planted over 94,000 trees on our properties. Our reforestation focuses on nurturing healthy forests, essential for healthy wildlife habitat, soil conservation, and fire prevention. We enlist the assistance of professional foresters to conduct the occasional thinning required to promote growth and reduce insect infestation.

Community Clean-Ups

Boxley employees lead community clean-up efforts throughout Virginia. Most volunteerism activities focus on river, highway, and adopt-a-spot clean-ups.

Recycling & Conservation Operational Excellence

All of Boxley’s properties aim to minimize waste at all our quarries, plants, and services. Each year, Team 360 is tasked with improving our recycling and reusing as much wastewater, block, asphalt, oil, paper, plastic, and metals as possible. Ultimately, earning Boxley many environmental and operational excellence awards and certifications.
