Boxley earns national community involvement award

Boxley 360 Earns National Community Involvement Award

Boxley 360: Corporate Responsibility Program was awarded the 2019 Community Involvement Award from the National Asphalt Pavement Association.

This national award recognizes a company’s commitment to operations that make them good contractors, good industry ambassadors, and good neighbors. We are proud to be recognized for our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and a good neighbor.

Engaged is a great word to describe our community involvement efforts that resulted in this honor. From October 2018 through October 2019, Boxley employees donated approximately 500 hours to 50 employee-led and organized community outreach projects. Activities included the United Way Day of Caring, where employees were volunteer waiters at Open Door Café in Wytheville, participated in interactive play at Head Start Fun Day in Lynchburg, performed landscaping at the Bedford Domestic Violence Center and CHIP in Roanoke, replaced ceiling tiles at ARC in Lynchburg, cleaned donations at the Rescue Mission in Roanoke, repaired and built pathways at Camp Lee Ford in Ridgeway, and participated in a house build for Habitat for Humanity in Buckingham County.

Boxley also partnered with the Virginia Museum of Natural History on an education collaborative that includes a combination of outreach education programs in schools and field trips to Boxley quarries. More than 1,850 students participate in the “From the Ground Up: Exploring Earth Science” program, which focuses on environmental stewardship and protection.

Boxley employees partnered with the Food for Kids program, which provides food every weekend to food insecure elementary school children; and held an open house where 60 neighbors shared a barbecue meal with employees.

These activities are just a sampling of the great things we do in the communities we call home each and every day.
